An exact match, not a near miss

With obsolete parts the details on the label decide everything: a different series, revision or firmware can mean a module that fits the slot but will not run the program. So the first thing we ask for is the complete part number with its series or revision, and a photo of the label. Then we search our own shelves and our sourcing network at the same time. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between end of life, discontinued and obsolete?

End of life usually means the manufacturer has announced a product will be discontinued. Discontinued means it is no longer sold new, though repair or support may continue for a while. Obsolete generally means neither new units nor factory support are available, so spares come from surplus, repair or exchange.

How do you find a part the manufacturer no longer makes?

We search our own shelves and our sourcing network at the same time. The part number with its series or revision is what lets both searches find an exact match rather than a near miss.

Is a surplus unit of an obsolete part a good buy?

Condition matters more than age. New surplus is unused old stock; a used unit removed from working equipment can be just as serviceable. Every item we stock is photographed and its condition stated, so you can judge before you buy.

Should we buy spares or migrate?

Spares buy time, and a planned migration beats an emergency one. Many plants keep one or two spares of each critical module and plan the migration for a scheduled shutdown.

What happens if you can't find it?

We tell you, rather than quoting a near match as if it were the same part. If a later series, a successor model or a repair is realistic, we mention it so you can decide.
