Lifecycle status

Siemens SIMATIC S5 and S7-300 lifecycle status: what Siemens says and what to do

Siemens ended the SIMATIC S5 product life cycle in 2020 and is phasing out the S7-300. Here is what Siemens' own notices say, the SiePortal status of the common 6ES5 and 6ES7 order numbers, what Siemens' milestone names mean, and what to do about the systems you still run.

By Kunj Tapiawala, KIV Parts · Published · 8 min read

Siemens SIMATIC S5 (order numbers starting 6ES5) and S7-300 (6ES7 3.., with ET 200M I/O such as the 6ES7 153 interface modules) still control a lot of production. This page uses only Siemens' own sources: its product notices for the dates and each order number's SiePortal page for its status. Our guide to reading Siemens order numbers explains the format.

Key takeaways

  • The S5 product life cycle ended on September 30, 2020: Siemens no longer supplies S5 spare parts or repairs.
  • S7-300 and ET 200M components have been spare parts only since October 1, 2025.
  • Most S7-300 modules we checked show Product cancellation (PM410) on SiePortal; the PS 307 power supplies still show Phase-out announced (PM400).
  • Siemens' replacement for the S7-300 in factory automation is the S7-1500 with ET 200MP I/O.

What Siemens' own notices say

SIMATIC S5

Siemens' product note on the S5 (entry 109776026, February 2020) ended the S5 product life cycle on September 30, 2020. From October 1, 2020,

“spare parts will not be available and repairs will not be possible”

– Siemens, End of the SIMATIC S5 product life cycle, Siemens Industry Online Support entry 109776026 (February 26, 2020), checked September 29, 2026

A few backup batteries were exceptions at the time. On SiePortal today, the S5 order numbers in our table show End of product lifecycle (PM500), apart from two of those batteries (see the table).

SIMATIC S7-300 and ET 200M

Siemens' phase-out note for the S7-300 and ET 200M (entry 109809890, updated January 20, 2026) set the phase-out announcement (PM400) for October 1, 2023, and says:

“Discontinuation (PM410) is effective as of October 1, 2025.”

– Siemens, Information about the product phase-out of S7-300 / ET 200M components, Siemens Industry Online Support entry 109809890 (updated January 20, 2026), checked September 29, 2026

From then on, Siemens explains, the components are available only as spare parts or through repair, in spare-part quantities – not for plant expansions or new projects. Final discontinuation (PM490) is not planned before ten years after PM400, and Siemens' S7-300 product page says the S7-300/ET 200M families will be available until 2033. The note links spreadsheets with the planned date and successor of every order number.

What the SiePortal statuses mean

SiePortal abbreviates Siemens' lifecycle milestones (“Phase Out Announce”, “Prod. Cancellation”, “Prod. Discont.”, “End Prod.Lifecycl.”). In our words, from Siemens' own descriptions:

  • Phase-out announced (PM400) – still sold new, no longer marketed.
  • Product cancellation (PM410) – spare parts and repair only.
  • Product discontinuation (PM490) – can no longer be ordered.
  • End of product lifecycle (PM500) – no spare parts, repairs or advice.

Our lifecycle status guide covers Rockwell's terms too.

Status by order number

As shown on each order number's SiePortal page on September 29, 2026 (SiePortal gives no dates). Each order number links to a search of our stock.

Of these, SiePortal names a successor only for the 6ES7315-2AG10-0AB0: the 6ES7315-2AH14-0AB0, itself at Product cancellation.

Sources: every status and successor in the tables comes from Siemens' own product page for that order number (the “Siemens” links in the Source column), read on September 29, 2026; the dates come from the Siemens notices quoted on this page. Statuses change: before you buy or plan a migration, check the order number's current page and Siemens' S7-300 phase-out notice.

Siemens' migration path

For the S7-300, Siemens names the S7-1500 with ET 200MP I/O (factory automation) and the S7-400 with ET 200SP HA I/O (process automation) as functional replacements, and recommends its TIA Selection Tool for planning. For the S5, it recommends migrating to SIMATIC S7 and points to S5 I/O adapters for the S7-1500 that reduce the conversion work.

What to do now

  1. List every S5 and S7-300 system you run: order number and product version of each module, and CPU firmware.
  2. Back up every program with its hardware configuration.
  3. Buy spares for critical systems: S7-300 spares while Siemens still supplies them, S5 spares now. Our PLC quote page takes single parts; a list goes through our ISO list form and gets an official written quote in under 24 hours on business days.
  4. Plan the migration at planned shutdowns, using Siemens' successor for each order number.

Safety first: switch off and lock out the rack's supply and any separately powered I/O before you change S5 or S7-300 modules, following Siemens' instructions and your site's lockout/tagout procedure.

S5 and S7-300 parts in our stock

Each order number in the tables links to a live search of our store; you can also browse 6ES5 S5 and 6ES7 SIMATIC results or the PLC processors category. Every item we stock is photographed, so check the order number, product version and firmware on the label. See also finding obsolete Siemens parts.

Can't find a part, or need several? Send the order numbers through the obsolete parts quote page and we'll check our shelves and our sourcing network. Purchase orders are welcome; payment is due before we ship.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Siemens S5 discontinued?

Yes. Siemens says the SIMATIC S5 product life cycle ended on September 30, 2020; from October 1, 2020 it no longer supplies S5 spare parts or repairs. The S5 order numbers in the table on this page show End of product lifecycle on SiePortal, apart from two backup batteries.

Is the S7-300 discontinued?

It is being phased out. Siemens announced the phase-out of the S7-300 and ET 200M for October 1, 2023, and since October 1, 2025 their components are sold only as spare parts or through repair. Siemens' S7-300 page says the S7-300/ET 200M families will be available until 2033.

What does Product cancellation (PM410) mean?

In Siemens' milestone terms, a component at PM410 is no longer sold as a new part; it is available as a spare part or through repair, in quantities usual for spare parts. Product discontinuation (PM490) and End of product lifecycle (PM500) come later.

What replaces the S7-300 and the S5?

For the S7-300, Siemens names the S7-1500 with ET 200MP I/O (factory automation) and the S7-400 with ET 200SP HA I/O (process automation) as functional replacements. For the S5, it recommends migrating to SIMATIC S7.

Running S5 or S7-300 systems?
