Lifecycle status

Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1000, 1200 and 1500 lifecycle status: what Rockwell says and what to do

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the MicroLogix 1000, 1200 and 1500 controllers, but not everything around them. Here is the manufacturer's own status and date for the common 1761, 1762 and 1764 catalog numbers, what Rockwell recommends instead, and what to do about the machines still running them.

By Kunj Tapiawala, KIV Parts · Published · 7 min read

The Allen-Bradley MicroLogix family is the small PLC on countless machines, skids and panels: the MicroLogix 1000 (catalog numbers starting 1761), the MicroLogix 1200 (1762) and the modular MicroLogix 1500 (1764). This page lists what Rockwell Automation itself says about each common catalog number – nothing from distributor lists – so you can decide which spares to hold and when to move a machine to a newer controller.

Key takeaways

  • Every MicroLogix 1000, 1200 and 1500 controller in the tables below is listed as Discontinued on its own Rockwell product page.
  • The MicroLogix 1000 and 1500 dates are in 2017; the MicroLogix 1200 controllers followed in August and October 2021.
  • The 1762 expansion I/O modules and the 1761 programming cables we checked are still Active Mature.
  • Rockwell's migration guide points MicroLogix 1000 and 1200 users to Micro800 controllers, and MicroLogix 1500 users to the MicroLogix 1400 or CompactLogix 5370.

What Rockwell's own pages say

Rockwell's MicroLogix 1200 family page says the Bulletin 1762

“controllers are discontinued and no longer available for sale”

– Rockwell Automation, MicroLogix 1200 Controllers (Rockwell Automation product page), checked September 29, 2026

and encourages a move to the Micro800 platform. We opened Rockwell's product page for each catalog number in the tables below on September 29, 2026. Every MicroLogix 1000 controller shows Discontinued with a date between February 28 and June 30, 2017, and the MicroLogix 1500 processors and base units have dates between May and June 2017. The MicroLogix 1200 controllers are discontinued as of August 25 or October 31, 2021, and their memory and real-time clock plug-ins as of August 31, 2021.

Two groups differ. The 1762 expansion I/O modules in the table are still Active Mature: fully supported, with newer products available. So are the 1761-CBL-PM02 and 1761-CBL-AM00 cables. The 1761-NET-AIC and 1761-NET-ENI communication adapters are discontinued. Our lifecycle status guide explains the statuses. If a catalog number isn't in these tables – the MicroLogix 1100 (1763), for example – we haven't checked it; look it up on Rockwell's product lifecycle search.

Rockwell's migration path

Rockwell's MicroLogix Controllers to Micro800 Controllers Migration Guide (publication 2080-RM002D, February 2026) is the map. It says MicroLogix 1000 and 1200 controllers migrate to Micro800 controllers, and MicroLogix 1500 controllers to MicroLogix 1400 or CompactLogix 5370 (L1/L2) controllers. It lists a Micro800 controller for each MicroLogix 1000 and 1200 catalog number, for example a Micro850 2080-L50E-24QWB for a 1762-L24BWA and a 2080-L50E-48QBB for a 1762-L40BXB or 1761-L32BBB. Many conversions also need a separate power supply, a memory and clock plug-in or expansion modules, so read the whole line, not just the controller.

The guide also describes a MicroLogix to Micro800 converter tool for the program. The two families are programmed in different software, so treat a converted project as a draft to check offline. If you move a MicroLogix 1500 to a MicroLogix 1400, note that the MicroLogix 1400 controllers we looked up, such as the 1766-L32BWA, were Active Mature on September 29, 2026.

What to do now

  1. List every MicroLogix you run with the full catalog number, series and firmware revision from the label, plus any expansion I/O and plug-ins.
  2. Save each program with the controller's catalog number and firmware noted, and keep the programming cable that fits it.
  3. Buy spare controllers for critical machines. The controller is the discontinued part; the 1762 I/O is still Active Mature. Our PLC quote page takes single parts; a list goes through our ISO list form and gets an official written quote in under 24 hours on business days.
  4. Plan the Micro800 move machine by machine, starting with the ones you have no spare for, and budget for the plug-ins and power supplies the migration guide lists.

Safety first: switch off and lock out the controller's supply and any separately powered I/O before you change a MicroLogix or its expansion modules, following Rockwell's instructions and your site's lockout/tagout procedure.

MicroLogix parts in our stock

Surplus and used units are now where MicroLogix 1000, 1200 and 1500 controllers come from. Each catalog number in the tables links to a live search of our store; you can also browse 1761 MicroLogix 1000, 1762 MicroLogix 1200 and I/O and 1764 MicroLogix 1500 results, or the PLC processors category. Every item we stock is photographed, so check the series and firmware on the label before you buy.

Need several, or a number we don't have? Send the catalog numbers through the obsolete parts quote page and we'll check our shelves and our sourcing network. Purchase orders are welcome; payment is due before we ship.

Frequently asked questions

Are MicroLogix 1000, 1200 and 1500 controllers discontinued?

Yes, for every controller we checked. Rockwell's product pages list the MicroLogix 1000 (1761) and MicroLogix 1500 (1764) controllers as Discontinued with dates in 2017, and the MicroLogix 1200 (1762) controllers with dates in August and October 2021.

Is 1762 expansion I/O discontinued too?

Not when we checked. The 1762 I/O modules in the table on this page were Active Mature on Rockwell's product pages. The 1762 memory and clock plug-ins for the MicroLogix 1200 are discontinued.

What replaces a MicroLogix controller?

Rockwell's MicroLogix to Micro800 migration guide says MicroLogix 1000 and 1200 controllers migrate to Micro800 controllers, and MicroLogix 1500 controllers to MicroLogix 1400 or CompactLogix 5370 L1/L2 controllers.

Can I still buy a MicroLogix 1200?

Not new from Rockwell. Surplus and used controllers are the usual source. Match the full catalog number and check the series and firmware revision on the label against the one you run.

Keeping MicroLogix machines running?

Send us the catalog numbers from the labels – one controller or a whole list – and we'll check our shelves and our sourcing network and quote it in writing.
