Allen-Bradley SLC 500 replacement finder: is it still made, what replaces it, spares in stock

For each SLC 500 catalog number: what Rockwell Automation's own product page says about its status and replacement, Rockwell's migration path, and the spares we have on the shelf right now.

By Kunj Tapiawala, KIV Parts · Published · Rockwell's pages checked October 17, 2026

Key takeaways

  • 42 of the 44 SLC 500 catalog numbers below are Discontinued on their own Rockwell product page; the 1747-AENTR is End of Life (February 15, 2027); the 1747-BA is still Active Mature.
  • Rockwell's product pages name a replacement catalog number for 2 of them (1747-SDN and 1747-SN) and list “5380” for the 1747-L533; for the rest, Rockwell's migration path is CompactLogix 5380.
  • For 12 catalog numbers (1746-A4, 1746-A7, 1746-A10, 1746-A13, 1746-P2, 1746-P3, 1746-P4, 1746-N2, 1747-M13, 1747-UIC, 1747-CP3 and 1747-C10) Rockwell's product pages say no replacement is planned: spares are the way to keep those going.
  • Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022) recommends a replacement for 34 of the 44 catalog numbers below; it lists the 1747-SN with no replacement; the 1746-P2, 1746-P3, 1746-P4, 1747-AENTR, 1747-M13, 1747-UIC, 1747-CP3, 1747-C10 and 1747-BA are not in its tables. The “Rockwell's recommended replacement (1746-RM003)” column gives each one with its table and page.
  • The stock column is live: what we have on the shelf now, at the price you pay.

Rockwell's migration path

  • Rockwell's path off the SLC 500 is CompactLogix 5380 controllers with Compact 5000 I/O. (source)
  • Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (publication 1746-RM003) lists a recommended CompactLogix controller for each SLC processor and replacement modules for the 1746 I/O, so it is the place to look up the replacement for one catalog number. (source)
  • For the program, Rockwell's SLC to CompactLogix Programming Migration guide (publication 5069-AP001) covers converting an RSLogix 500 project. (source)
  • Rockwell's 1492 I/O wiring systems connect the new I/O to the existing field wiring, so the wires can stay where they are. (source)

Where neither Rockwell's product page nor its SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003) names a replacement for a catalog number, we don't name one either: ask us.

Status, replacement and stock by catalog number

Status, discontinued date, replacement category and replacement product as printed on each catalog number's Rockwell product page (the “Rockwell” link), checked October 17, 2026. The recommended replacement column is a separate source: Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022), with the table and page for each row. Look up any other number with the finder above.

Rockwell's recommended replacement (1746-RM003): from Rockwell Automation's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual, publication 1746-RM003F-EN-E (January 2022), exactly as its tables give it, with the table and page for each:

  • CompactLogix 5370 controller: “Table 1 - Recommended CompactLogix 5370 Replacement Controllers”, page 17
  • CompactLogix 5380 controller: “Table 2 - Recommended CompactLogix 5380 Replacement Controllers”, page 18
  • Compact I/O: “Table 3 - Recommended Compact I/O Replacement”, pages 19–22 (used with a CompactLogix 5370 controller)
  • Compact 5000 I/O: “Table 4 - Recommended Compact 5000 I/O Replacement”, pages 23–25 (used with a CompactLogix 5380, CompactLogix 5480 or ControlLogix 5580 controller)
  • 1492 conversion system: “Table 5 - SLC I/O to Compact 5000 I/O Conversion System Selection”, pages 25–26 (a 1492 conversion module connects the existing SLC wiring to the Compact 5000 I/O module)
  • 1492 conversion chassis: “Table 6 - SLC to Compact 5000 Chassis Conversion System Selection”, page 26

“No replacement” means the manual's table prints exactly that. Check specifications, wiring and the controller in Rockwell's documentation before you order.

Sources: every status, date, replacement category and product-page replacement in the tables comes from Rockwell Automation's own product page for that catalog number, read on October 17, 2026. The recommended replacements come from Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022), table and page given in each row. The migration path comes from: SLC 500 to CompactLogix 5380 Migration (Rockwell Automation page); SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual, publication 1746-RM003F-EN-E (January 2022); SLC to CompactLogix Programming Migration guide, publication 5069-AP001; 1492 I/O Wiring Systems (Rockwell Automation page). Statuses change: before you buy or plan a migration, check the current status on Rockwell's product lifecycle search.

More on what each status means and the dates by family: our Allen-Bradley SLC 500 lifecycle guide.

Keep it running or migrate?

Many plants do both: spares for the SLC 500 systems that must keep running, and a dated plan to move off the platform. Our SLC 500 migration guide covers spares kits, program backups and a phased move. Every unit we stock is photographed; check the series and firmware on the label before you buy.

Safety first: change SLC 500 modules, power supplies and chassis only with power off, following Rockwell's instructions and your site's lockout/tagout procedure. I/O field wiring can be live from other sources even when the PLC is off – verify before you touch it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 still made?

Mostly not. Of the 44 SLC 500 catalog numbers on this page, Rockwell Automation's product pages list 42 as Discontinued. Exceptions: the 1747-AENTR is End of Life (discontinued date February 15, 2027); the 1747-BA is Active Mature. Checked on October 17, 2026; statuses change, so confirm on Rockwell's site before you plan.

What replaces an SLC 500 processor?

Rockwell's path off the SLC 500 is CompactLogix 5380. Rockwell's product pages name no one-to-one replacement catalog number for the SLC 500 processors (the 1747-L533 page lists “5380”). Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022) recommends one per processor: in Table 2 (page 18), as a CompactLogix 5380 controller, the 5069-L306ER for the 1747-L511, 1747-L514, 1747-L524, 1747-L532, 1747-L533, 1747-L541, 1747-L542, 1747-L551 and 1747-L552 and the 5069-L310ER for the 1747-L543 and 1747-L553; in Table 1 (page 17), as a CompactLogix 5370 controller, the 1769-L24ER-QB1B for the 1747-L511, 1747-L514, 1747-L524, 1747-L532, 1747-L533, 1747-L541, 1747-L542, 1747-L551 and 1747-L552 and the 1769-L30ER for the 1747-L543 and 1747-L553. Check memory and I/O needs against the manual before you order.

What replaces the 1747-SDN and 1747-SN?

Rockwell's product pages for the 1747-SDN and 1747-SN name the 5069-AENTR as the replacement. Separately, Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022) lists, for the 1747-SDN, Compact I/O: 1769-SDN (Table 3, page 22); Compact 5000 I/O: no replacement (Table 4, page 25); and for the 1747-SN, Compact I/O: no replacement (Table 3, page 22); Compact 5000 I/O: no replacement (Table 4, page 25). Check Rockwell's documentation for fit, wiring and settings before you swap.

Which Compact I/O or Compact 5000 I/O module replaces an SLC 500 I/O module?

Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022) gives, per 1746 module, a Compact I/O (1769) replacement in Table 3 (pages 19–22) and a Compact 5000 I/O (5069) replacement in Table 4 (pages 23–25), or “No replacement” where it has none. For 12 of the 17 SLC 500 I/O modules on this page, Table 5 also names a 1492 conversion module that connects the existing SLC wiring to the Compact 5000 module. For example, the 1746-IA16: 1769-IA16 or 5069-IA16; the 1746-IB16: 1769-IQ16 or 5069-IB16. The table above gives every catalog number with its table and page.

Which SLC 500 parts have no planned replacement?

Rockwell's product pages for the 1746-A4, 1746-A7, 1746-A10, 1746-A13, 1746-P2, 1746-P3, 1746-P4, 1746-N2, 1747-M13, 1747-UIC, 1747-CP3 and 1747-C10 name no replacement and say none is planned. For these parts, spares are the way to keep an existing SLC 500 system going. Separately, for the migration, Rockwell's SLC 500 Hardware Migration reference manual (1746-RM003F-EN-E, January 2022) lists, for the 1746-A4, 1492 conversion chassis: 1492-CH1746-4 (Table 6, page 26); and for the 1746-A7, 1492 conversion chassis: 1492-CH1746-7 (Table 6, page 26); and for the 1746-A10, 1492 conversion chassis: 1492-CH1746-10 (Table 6, page 26); and for the 1746-A13, 1492 conversion chassis: 1492-CH1746-13 (Table 6, page 26); and for the 1746-N2, Compact I/O: 1769-ARM (Table 3, page 22); Compact 5000 I/O: 5069-ARM (Table 4, page 25).

Can I still buy SLC 500 parts?

Not new from Rockwell once a catalog number is discontinued. We stock surplus and used units - the table shows what is in stock right now - and source the ones we don't have: send the catalog numbers through the quote form. Purchase orders are welcome; payment is due before we ship.

Spares now, migration on your schedule

Send the catalog number – one line or a whole spares list – and we'll check our shelves and our sourcing network and quote it in writing. Planning the move off SLC 500? KIV Engineering plans and builds retrofits of obsolete controls.
